Water, Sand, and Smog

Mexico City -

Hi everyone, this is just the first part of the post because I don´t have much time to write! However, I did upload some images while waiting during my 10 hour layover in Mexico City. As we can see, everything is coming along just fine. I also weighed in my bike and gear, 85 lbs total! BOOYA!! One of the other guys on the trip plans on taking 120, so I´m in relatively good shape. Time to run, will update later.

expecting when I land in Buenos Aires (plane takes off in 3 hrs I think, and this is 7hrs into the layover...). At one point, I looked out the window to see sand and water.Ok, later came and time to add to the post a bit. On the plane I sat next to a retired teacher, Donald, who was living a kind of nomadic life with his wife - work, then live/travel abroad for months at a time. Our conversation touched upon the situation of the current generation in America, one that has grown complacent and selfish, and simply hasn't or isn't willing to make the sacrifices of the generations that came before. We both expressed worry, but he'll be gone before I will. We'll see what happens. He´s escaping Winnipeg, Canada, to head to the beaches of Mexico. Hahaha, I can only imagine the change in temps, but not like what I´m going to. Yes, this is when it hit me. Goodbye winter! Hello summer! It really has been too long since I saw any large body of water, I miss the ocean.

Soon the beaches were replaced with a mountain range of some sort, whatever is between Mexico City and Chicago. Those gave way to the valley that opened up to the heart of Mexico City, and of course the smog. I´d estimate you could see no more than 5 miles, and this was without a cloud in the sky! (That is if you don´t count the permanent cloud on the ground) I´ve been hearing stories about Beijing cleaning up for the Olympics, I really hope that´s not the case like what I see here.

It´s going to be a nice flight to Buenos Aires. Ciao All!

David - think positive. I know your bike will show up. Enjoy your time in BA.
